Gamification is not the same thing as playing a Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) video game. In fact, a gamified course might not have any online or computer-based elements, unless you choose to include them.
GAME-BASED LEARNING happens when you play games (educational, simulations, COTS, or otherwise) and learn through the process of playing. Gamification is different.
GAMIFICATION happens when you design your lessons or class to include GAME ELEMENTS in the classroom or lesson context.
